Why to do this trip?
Because it will be amazing – of course! Because Cocos is a place every diver has to go once. Because Cocos is a tiny island in the middle of the Pacific surrounded by the richest marine area on the planet.
Because there will be hammerheads, tigers, and there will be insane night diving with hunting white tips, there will be eagle rays, marble rays, manta rays and much-much more...
Because there is a chance to try a submarine and dive deeper than you have ever imagined you could dive. Leave the natural light behind and look for creatures of the dark...
Because our group will be awesome, because you will have no signal so no phone or internet... You can relax for real, spend ten days with friends (and sharks, loads of sharks of course!!!!).
If you need more reasons go and check yourself with a doctor... :)

Sample Itinerary
Arrival day
You must arrive at least one day prior to the boat departure date.
Upon arrival to San José, we can have transportation waiting for you (please contact us for a quote) or you can take a taxi to your hotel. There are always taxis available at the airport, even minivans for those of you who carry a lot of gear. We can also recommend and arrange accommodations for hotels in San José. Please note that we do not pick up from all San Jose hotels.
The evening before boat departure, an Undersea Hunter representative will fax you to confirm your pick up time the next day. The evening is at your leisure. Air transport, airport transfers, hotel nights and meals before and after the cruise are not included in the charter.
Day 1
The following day, generally between 8 AM and 1 PM we pick up from certain hotels and transfer everybody by bus to Puntarenas where you will board the vessel. The drive takes about 2 1/2 hours, and gives you a chance to view the lush forest and rich farmland of the region.
Due to occasional low tides our boats may need to depart from the pier earlier in the day. Should this occur, you will be transferred by skiff to the vessel. When all passengers have arrived on board, the vessel will take a 32-36 hour cruise out to Cocos Island.
Day 2
A travel day. There will be time to arrange dive and camera gear as well as enjoy the Pacific and the sunshine. Also, the group of incredibly experienced divers provides plenty of stories to pass the time. There are videos and the experience of the Captain and crew to help you get excited for the diving...as if you need them. In addition, you may want to take this time to take one of our diving courses.
Days 3 - 8
Spent diving the pinnacles around the perimeter of Cocos Island. Divers usually average three dives per day at depths of 60-100 feet (18-30 meters) or more. This, of course, is what the whole trip is about. It will also be possible to do at least three night dives during the trip.
Day 9
Make the last 3 dives before the cruise back to Costa Rica and reality!
Day 10
All day to discuss the diving and to compare your adventures!
Day 11
Arrival to Puntarenas. Immediately after breakfast you will be transported back to San Jose. We strongly recommend staying one more night on land, before flying out, in case of any unforeseen delays.

Our Ship
Many have crowned the Sea Hunter as the paramount, purpose-built live aboard vessel, the gold standard for all other dive boats. She is a superbly stable and robust craft, formerly a commercial dive-support vessel, built to serve the oil industry in the Gulf of Mexico.
Now redesigned and configured as a consummate hybrid, Sea Hunter combines the large platform, functionality and powerful machinery of a workboat with the comfortable and relaxed interior of a modern yacht. She is 115 feet of flexible capacity and convenience, a dedicated dive cruiser with a global reach, specifically designed and built for long-range expeditions to destinations like Cocos and Malpalo islands.
It was purchased in 1994 and through eight months of extensive redesign and renovation, turned the boat into the striking vessel she is today. Sea Hunter has 10 guest cabins with private baths, furnishing live-aboard comfort for up to 20 passengers.
This spacious boat is everything that a serious diver or photographer could wish for - individual gear storage, private camera/strobe storage shelves with 110 & 220-volt AC power, zero-speed stabilizers and even a private washer & dryer for client’s towels and bathing suits. Her roominess and user-friendliness has introduced adventure divers, as well as professional photographers and cinematographers, to an entirely new level of live- aboard facility.

DeepSee Submersible - The ultimate underwater adventure
Getting into the closed cabin of a scientific submarine... Going through all the pre-dive checks with the pilot and getting ourselves ready for the deepest dive of our life.
Slowly submerging and leaving the world we know behind. Even being divers, as we go deeper and all natural lights fade we enter an unknown realm, a place of childhood dreams and excitement, adventure and exploration...
The headlights are turned on and the hunt for deep sea creatures start...
This addition to the Cocos diving trip might not be for everybody, but if you love adventure, to go where not many went before you, this is certainly for you!

What to Expect
Our aquanauts begin with a short "training" session on the mothership. This consists of a general introduction to the DeepSee submersible, an all-important safety briefing and finally the parameters of the scheduled dive including position, depth, geology and expected species to be encountered. Of course, there can always be surprises where deep encounters are concerned. Each adventurer is then outfitted with a fresh, cotton one- piece jumpsuit and special footwear for the trip below.
The sub pilot and one or two passengers then board the submarine as it floats within the protective hull of the Argo. Boarding is as easy as simply stepping into the cockpit and requires no special coordination or skill.
The extreme depths we explore are a serious undertaking. The safe operation actually requires two pilots at all times: one for the sub and another aboard the dedicated support boat, TopSee. TopSee also carries an in-water specialist to assist with the sub's final stage checklist just before decent. Surface to sub communication between the two vessels is maintained throughout the dive.
Regardless of the dive site, the DeepSee is always towed to the target area by the control skiff TopSee. The sub is given a final check of all systems both externally, by the dive technician in the water and aboard as the pilot completes his pre-dive procedures. Now situated above the dive target with all systems go, the sub is disconnected and she is free, using her own power to complete the dive.
During the dive, the control skiff is constantly monitoring, guiding, assisting and following the submersible, employing its high tech tracking and communication equipment throughout the duration of expedition.
You are welcome to bring your own still and video cameras onboard with you during your adventure. After the completion of the dive, passengers will also receive our souvenir DVD, a compilation of videos and images of prior encounters from some of DeepSee's early dives.
Normally, the sub can perform two dives each day, one in the morning and another scheduled for the afternoon. A total of four passengers per day will have the opportunity for this once in a lifetime experience.
